For the Curiously Minded...

Our hosts are Anjan Saha and Nina Joshi Ramsey, exploring inventive ideas with a stellar array of guests, including scientists and artists to address modern challenges. Intersperse these dynamic exchanges with live music, poetry and beats, and we have a winning Festival Finale for you. Expect, at times, irreverent, humorous and philosophical searches for deeper truths and solutions to modern day challenges. Art and Science demand different thought disciplines that could cross paths. Can a mashup enquiry of an H&F borough challenge, as well as something more universal, lead to innovative solutions? This event launches a series of hothouse thinking to create better community environments by bringing together a wide spread of society towards a common goal. Join us at the reception where you can put your hand to science, input into the discussion topics and meet people from across the HF Arts Festival.

Leave Taking

“That girl heading for big trouble. I try to warn her but she won’t take telling. She think she know everything. Think she a woman.” A single mother travelled to England determined to make a good life for her family. Now Enid and her two daughters search for a way to feel rooted in a land where they’re invisible. With one daughter prepping for university happy to lead “a quiet life” and the other doing anything but, what’s a mother to do except call upon the local ‘obeah’ woman for some traditional Caribbean soul healing. Family secrets are soon revealed and tragedy rekindles Enid’s longing for home. Leave Taking is a beautifully observed, moving account of a second generation immigrant family navigating the familial conflicts between generations and cultures. The play was first produced at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1987. Madani Younis (The Royale) directs the contemporary revival of this classic, award-winning play.
